30 October 1908 – Henri Farman and his biplane Voisin entered the Hall of Fame with their first "town-to-town" flight in aviation history.
That day, Henri Farman was attempting the first "town-to-town" flight between Bouy and Reims, a distance of some 30 kms. Speed reached, approximately 73 kilometres per hour.
This was a major step in the conquest of the air. Following the exploit, the aerodrome of Bétheny was built and airshows held.

1909: The week-long Champagne air show was the first event of its kind and attracted 150,000 spectators. The event met with huge success and its renown spread internationally. At the end of the meeting, French aircraft and pilots held the triple world record for speed (7 minutes 47 seconds 4/5ths over 10 kms), altitude (155m) and distance (190 kms).

On the last day of the meeting, Blériot's plane caught fire in flight, but the pilot escaped and Bréguet "broke some wood".

In the wake of this event, the first major aircraft manufacturers set up in Reims.
At the Mourmelon camp, a pilot school took on board the new sport's future elite.
