Birthplace of the "Hébert method"

hébertisme

In 1907, the Marquis Melkior de Polignac decided to create a sports park, the design and realisation of which he entrusted to local landscape architect Redont.
22 hectares (55 acres) devoted to games and sports. At the time, such a venture was unique in France and extremely rare in Europe. The Parc Pommery attracted admirers from everywhere.
The Polignacs invited Lieutenant Georges Hébert to Reims to experiment his "natural method" which was later to become almost official doctrine for physical education teaching in France. It also led to the setting up of a specialist gymnastics teacher training college.
