Practical car parking

Just in case you intend heading into the city centre and have decided you want to park there:

Did you know there are more than 8,000 parking places, divided into four different types – free parking (2,300 places), pay-and-display parking, surface parking spots and large car parks.
If the Gambetta-Saint Remi sector is included, the number of parking places comes to over 11,000.

Pay-and-display

There are over 3,000 pay-and-display parking places in two distinct zones – a red zone, where parking is limited to two hours at €1.40 an hour and a green zone where parking is limited to five hours at €0.70 an hour.

Once you've found a spot and parked, you just need to go to the ticket machine to pay. You can choose either to pay in cash (minimum of €0.40 for both zones) or with an electronic banking card, which can be purchased from the Service du Stationnement Payant (parking payments service), 17 ilot Jadart – open Monday to Friday from 9.15 to 11.45am and 2.15 to 5pm).

You can also pay using the PIAF autonomous payment system, which means you don't need to find a ticket machine. Information from and sales at the Service du Stationnement Payant.

Short-stay and long-stay parking

There are eight short-stay and seven long-stay car parks operated by the City of Reims. Short-stay parking can be found in the very centre of the city. They are more expensive in order to encourage a higher turnover of vehicles. So it will cost you €2.40 to park for two hours in a short-stay spot and only €1 in a long-stay one.

The first half hour is free of charge in both, which is ideal if you only need to stay a very short while.

Large car parks

Champagne Parc Auto currently runs four large car parks.
BUIRETTE car park has 444 places - entrance in Rue Buirette
CATHEDRALE car park has 565 places - entrance in Rue des Capucins
ERLON car park has 650 places - open 24 hours a day, entrance in Boulevard Général Leclerc
GAMBETTA car park has 280 places – entrance in Rue Gambetta.
There are therefore a lot of parking spots in large car parks, although they can get very full at certain times of year (e.g. Christmas or during the sales). This situation should improve in 2008 with the addition of a 150-space car park in Rue de Pouilly near the city hall (Hôtel de Ville) together with a further 800 places in a large car park behind the railway station in anticipation of the TGV high-speed train service.
Other projects are currently in progress concerning the Folle Peine sector and Le Boulingrin.

Residents and tradesmen

If you don't have a garage and live in a part of the city where a charge is made for parking, you qualify for the residents' rate of €0.80 for a morning, €1.20 for the afternoon or €2 for the day. However, if you live in a red zone, you can only get his rate and park in a corresponding green zone since the special residents' rate doesn't apply to red zones.

N.B. The residents' rate only applies to your zone; if you park outside that zone, you must pay the normal rate.

For further details, contact the Service du Stationnement Payant , 17 Îlot Jadart – open Monday to Friday from 9.15 to 11.45am and 2.15 to 5pm).

If you are a tradesman and your work means you have to come to the city centre and pay for parking, you are entitled to a special rate: €2 for the morning, €3 for the afternoon and €4 for the day.
In order to qualify for this special rate, you must be in a commercial vehicle or one that can be easily identified as being a work vehicle.

For further details, contact the Service du Stationnement Payant , 17 Îlot Jadart – open Monday to Friday from 9.15 to 11.45am and 2.15 to 5pm.
