Reims ESAD is a municipal school which comes under the Ministry of Culture.
With 200 students divided up into 2 sectors - art and design -, it awards DNAP diplomas (visual arts equivalent to level II honours degree) after three years of study and DNSEP diplomas (higher visual arts expression equivalent to level I Master's) after five years.
The teaching approach reflects ESAD's being part of the college of art network and its dual "art" & "design" backdrop. It aims to train artists and designers as creators using both fields in a mutually-inspiring spirit.
Experimentation and research are conducive to the use of multiple techniques associated with contemporary artistic creation in project work. All aspects of design are covered, from objects to furniture, graphics, space and multimedia.
ESAD is also the first European school to have created a culinary design workshop.
The school fosters identity-building for young personalities and nurtures independence by asking students to question models, master rather than be slaves to techniques and be aware that they are both part of an historical continuum and present in a contemporary context in their specific domain. From the third year, training is driven by student choice, ensuring freedom to construct a curriculum from the spectrum of disciplines.
Training is carried out by some 40 teachers, a significant number which reflects the choice to bring in professionals for one day a week, providing dynamic impetus and opening up horizons.
